This is not a second Wikipedia. It is a reading of the thirteen chapters so a person facing a live conflict can decide whether to enter, whether force is needed, and what would make the next cycle better.

Sun Tzu is a peace technology here, not a business-war manual. The Art of War is of vital importance to the state because force is expensive. The useful work is examination: stay out unless the aim is worth it; resolve at plan and relationship before force; stop when the trigger is gone.

Stay out
Chapter 1 asks whether to enter. Staying out is the default unless the aim is worth the cost and the system can hold.
Without fighting
Chapter 3 places 不战而屈人之兵 as the highest good. Change the plan and the relationship before you change the field.
Stop date
If you must move, count the burn and write a stop date. A long campaign leaves both sides worse.
Once you know
A clear fact lowers uncertainty before you commit. Acting without knowing is usually more expensive than finding out.
